2024 National Futsal Champions
Congratulations to our Senior A Futsal team who are now national champions after beating Auckland's Mt Albert Grammar in a thrilling final on Friday afternoon.
With the scores tied at 1-1 with less than a minute remaining, Sam Gates scored in front of a packed crowd at Akau Tangi Stadium. AJ Hale had opened the scoring in the early minutes but MAGs stuck back midway through the first half and then forced a number of great saves from our goalkeeper Josh Ingham.
Our last NZ Secondary Schools national title win was in 2017 when current All Whites captain Liberato Cacace scored all five goals in a 5-0 demolition of Napier Boys' High School. The 2017 win was our third national title in four years but since then there have been a number of close shaves, which made this win so special.
At the conclusion of the tournament Charlie Hale was named MVP. Sam Gates was just pipped for the Golden Boot (most goals).
To cap off a great futsal nationals, our Junior team finished third in the country, winning a penalty shoot-out 5-4 over Hamilton Boys after the scores were locked at 4-4 at full time.
The College would like to thank head coach Khalid Razouk and his assistant Josh Bowie for the way they have moulded both teams into focussed and successful units.
The Senior team still has plenty to play for. They are chasing the triple crown of futsal, having won the Regional title two weeks ago and now Nationals.
Tonight they have a College Sport Wellington league semi-final against Rongotai, starting at 9.15pm.
