St Patrick's College, Wellington

Parent Weekly Update 28 March

Dear Parents and Caregivers

EASTER HOLIDAY: The College is closed for the Easter holiday on Friday 30 March, Monday 2 April and Tuesday 3 April.

DATES TO DIARY FOR NEXT WEEK:

  • WEDNESDAY 4 April – Home-School Partnership meeting (see details below).
  • THURSDAY 5 APRIL – the Second Hand Uniform Shop will be open on Thursday 5 April from 1:30 – 2:30pm.

TAX DEDUCTIBLE DONATIONS: All families have been emailed an initial account showing fees and donations to the College at this stage of the year, and they are also available on the KAMAR parent portal. We would encourage you to pay as many of the donations as you can before 31 March (the end of next week). By doing this you can claim a partial refund for donations from IRD in the 2017-2018 Tax year.

HOME-SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP MEETING FOR PASIFIKA FAMILIES: Talofa lava, Kia orana, Malo ni, Malo e lelei. All Pacific Island families are warmly invited to attend our first Home-School Partnership for 2018 on Wednesday 4 April at 6pm in our hall. 2017 brought some pleasing improvement in University Entrance pass-rates and NCEA results for our Pasifika boys. It is not only the work of your son’s teachers that contribute to these achievements but the support from home and attending our Home-School Partnership sessions. Parents will have the opportunity to meet their son’s House Leader and Tutor teacher and understand the roles they have in helping your sons reach their academic, spiritual, sporting and cultural goals for the year. We look forward to seeing you on 4 April.

PROGRESS CONFERENCE DAY: All students and their caregivers are strongly encouraged to attend a 20 minute in-depth discussion with the student’s Tutor Teacher (or another teacher allocated accordingly). Parent-Teacher-Student interviews will be conducted on Wednesday 11 April from 12 – 2pm, 3 – 5pm and 5.20 – 7pm. Students only need to come into school for the duration of their appointment and there are no classes that day. All Year 9 – 11 students will have an interview with their Tutor Teacher. Interviews will be of 20 minutes duration. Students must attend as well. Year 12 students will have an interview with a subject teacher or in some cases their Tutor Teacher or House Leader. Year 13 students will not have an interview on this day. They will have their mentoring session with their Tutor Teacher on Wednesday 28 March.

For these interviews we are using an internet-based booking system called Parent Teacher On-Line (PTO). It will save time for parents, staff and students! Using this system, you will be able to book the interview times that suit you best from any internet-connected computer. This will be available from today – Wednesday 28 March. A computer will be available in the front office during school hours if you do not have internet access at home or elsewhere. Information about how to log-on can be found on the College website.

RECTOR ON LEAVE: I will be away overseas on leave from Wednesday 4 April until Saturday 5 May. Mr Wayne Mills will be Acting Rector in my absence.

EASTER MESSAGE: Easter is the most important celebration for us as Christians because it reminds us of the passion, death and resurrection of God’s son Jesus. It represents the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness and it gives us hope for the future. Please take the time to go to a Good Friday liturgy at 3pm in a parish near you and to attend Mass on Easter Sunday. May the blessings of the Risen Christ be yours this Easter and may we all grow closer to the God who loves us so much he gave his only Son for the forgiveness of our sins.

Kind regards

Neal Swindells
