Parent Weekly Update 24 November

Dear Parents and Caregivers

A few weeks ago parents were asked to complete a survey on Excellence in Boys’ Education. The deadline for completing this survey has been extended to encourage more people to respond. If you have not taken the time to complete the survey we would strongly encourage you to do so.

DATES TO DIARY: NCEA external exams continue. Year 10 camps continue next week with Redwood House on camp from Monday 27 to Wednesday 29 November and Watters House on camp from Wednesday 29 November to Friday 1 December. All Year 9 classes will be involved in Spiritual Retreats on either Tuesday or Wednesday. National Secondary School Athletics in Hawkes Bay on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 December.

REMINDER: The final day of school for 2017 is Friday 8 December. On that day we have Junior Prizegiving at 10am.

SHORT TERM HOMESTAYS FOR 2018: Have you ever thought about becoming a homestay? If you have a spare room and live within a bus ride of the College you could become a host family and enjoy the benefits of learning about another culture. Host families are paid $280 per week. The College has four group visits early in 2018:

  1. 5 students from Brazil staying for 13 weeks.
  2.  2 students from Japan staying for 11 weeks (8 January to 23 March. The first 3 weeks will be spent at a language school)
  3.  3 students from Thailand staying for 6 weeks (5 March to 13 April)
  4. from Japan staying two weeks arriving early March.

INTERNATIONAL ARTS FESTIVAL: Next year is the International Festival of the Arts and we can buy tickets for your son, at $15.00 per show, to the performances listed in the Schoolfest 2018 link below. Even though some register as being sold out we can apply for tickets on a waiting list. This information has also been sent to your son. Please have your answers in by Wednesday 29 November.
