YEAR 9 RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAMME: In New Zealand, Year 9/10 students are required to have a basic, but accurate understanding of several human sexuality topics. Normally Year 9/10 students are aware of these topics from a variety of sources. However it is important that their understanding of sexuality is accurate.
To this end, St Patrick’s College has the opportunity to provide a programme for the year 9 students called Choosing to Love which has been produced by an organisation called Loving For Life NZ. Choosing to Love is a programme which provides information and values based education on human sexuality appropriate for the age group of 14-15 year olds. Loving for Life has been facilitating students to explore authentic Catholic teaching in the area of Health and Sexuality in Australia for over 25 years. These programmes are now available in NZ, bicultural and tailored to meet the needs of a NZ learner. Resources are both medically accurate and in accordance with Catholic teaching. If you are interested in knowing more, information can be found on the website www.lovingforlife.co.nz or you are welcome to email lovingforlifenz@gmail.com.
