Parent Weekly Update 1 December

Dear Parents and Caregivers

START OF ADVENT: This Sunday, 3 December marks the start of Advent in the Church when we prepare for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas. I would encourage all of us to take some time each day to spend in quiet reflection.

  • Monday 4 December – Year 13 sign out at 1.30pm and Gateway Parents Information Evening at 4.30pm in the staffroom.
  • Tuesday 5 December –Neville Shield Athletics at Silverstream starting at 1pm.
  • Thursday 7 December – Year 9 Music Concert commencing at 1.45pm in the College hall. Parents and friends are most welcome to attend.
  • Friday 8 December – Junior Prizegiving at 10am in the College hall. Students wear formal uniform. All families and friends of the College are welcome. At the end of this prizegiving students are dismissed for their summer holidays. This will be at approximately 11.30am. A full newsletter will be available.

YEAR 13 SIGN OUT AFTERNOON: We would ask all our Year 13 students to come into school on Monday 4 December at 1.30pm to complete “Leaving Procedures”. They do not need to wear uniform.

YEAR 10 CAMPS: While the Watters campers are not back at school yet we appear to have had a very successful two weeks of Year 10 camps. We hope your sons really enjoyed the experience. Thank you so much to Mr Chris Taylor and our staff plus our senior students who assisted with these camps. Also thank you to Father Pat Brophy who went out to say Mass with each group.

JUNIOR REPORTS: All students in Year 9 and Year 10 will receive an end of year report. This will be posted out to families for them to receive next week. Note that the subject comments and grades on the report can also be viewed from the Parent Portal.

LOCKERS: All junior students need to empty their lockers and take their lock home. Thanks to a donation from our Parents’ Association we are installing new lockers in the Redwood Block over the summer.

SHORT TERM HOMESTAYS FOR 2018: Have you ever thought about becoming a homestay? If you have a spare room and live within a bus ride of the College you could become a host family and enjoy the benefits of learning about another culture. Host families are paid $280 per week. The College has four group visits early in 2018:
1. 5 students from Brazil staying for 13 weeks.
2. 2 students from Japan staying for 11 weeks (8 January to 23 March. The first 3 weeks will be spent at a language school)
3. 3 students from Thailand staying for 6 weeks (5 March to 13 April)
4. 15 from Japan staying two weeks arriving early March.
